Description

Our founders were trained in traditional Internal Medicine. Alongside their team of providers and health coaches, they treat a wide variety of health concerns and chronic diseases by using a functional/lifestyle medicine approach to patient care. Their mission is to restore your health by finding and treating the root cause of your medical problems as opposed to placating your symptoms with prescription pills. Contrary to traditional medicine, their treatment is focused on you as a whole person, not just one isolated part related to one particular disease or symptom. They use both comprehensive diagnostic testing and detailed patient evaluations to provide personalized treatment plans for your specific needs.

  • Dr. Cory Rice

    Internal Medicine

Dr. Cory Rice graduated from Baylor University with a bachelor’s degree in forensic science and then completed medical school at the Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine in Glendale, Arizona. He attended Methodist Medical Center of Dallas for his internship and residency in Internal Medicine. He was chosen as Chief Resident of his Internal Medicine residency program during his final year. He spent two years in outpatient traditional Internal Medicine (including inpatient work in critical care and hospitalist medicine) before he and his medical partner opened a private practice after identifying a profound need for a more directed focus on prevention and wellness as it related to outpatient medicine. He now puts food first in virtually all of his medical recommendations and is continually amazed at the power of nutrition as it relates to improving function in the body and ultimately restoring health to his patients which, often times, leads to less prescription medicines. He has also completed coursework and certifications through the Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) and the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine (A4M). Dr. Rice’s professional interests include nutrition based chronic disease management, thyroid management, longevity/precision medicine, and bioidentical hormone replacement therapy for men and women. His clinical expertise is in most areas of chronic disease and, ultimately, the treatment and reversal of some of the more commonly encountered conditions in clinical practice today. His main focus in his practice is on wellness and prevention, nutrition, therapeutic lifestyle change and appropriate hormone balancing for men and women. His practice is a blend of both functional and lifestyle medicine. Dr. Rice has been featured on national and local television as well as local and national radio to discuss a wide range of health care topics, including obesity in adults and children, healthy eating, healthy exercise, hormones, and lifestyle medicine. He remains actively involved in the education of young trainees and established healthcare practitioners on the benefits of lifestyle medicine as it relates to patient care and 21st century chronic disease. Additionally, Dr. Rice has served as the Principal Investigator on several IRB approved, open-label case observation studies involving his clinics and patients. Dr. Rice currently serves as the Chief Clinical Advisor for BioTE Medical, the nation’s leading provider of natural hormone replacement therapy using subcutaneous pellets. Dr. Rice also serves on BioTE’s Medical Advisory Board. He is the former Medical Director for BioTE’s training clinic and research facility in Irving, TX. He currently oversees the proctor training program at BioTE and has also been certified as a physician mentor at BioTE, where he helps certified health care providers on the use of bioidentical pellets for both men and women. Dr. Rice has been featured in Scientific Observer, EndocrineWeb, and AskMen among other articles and publications. He has also been featured on the LDN Radio Show. (Links to his featured articles and video below). Dr. Rice serves on several other speakers bureaus and medical advisory boards for various healthcare companies and is currently the Chief Medical Advisor for Formula30A, a professional line of hemp derived full spectrum CBD/CBG oil.

  • Ashley Howell FMCHC, NBC-HWC

Board Certified Functional Medicine Health Coach

Ashley Howell is a Board Certified, Functional Medicine Health Coach with a BS in Nutrition from Purdue University. She has 20 years of experience working in the nutrition and wellness field and 10 years working as the lead health coach at Modern Medicine in Dallas, TX. Ashley’s health coaching journey began in 2000, while working as a CPhT in a compounding pharmacy in Austin, TX. She quickly realized she could change, not only her own health for the better, but the health of others using lifestyle medicine and complementary nutritional therapies. After continuing her education through CE courses offered by the NIH and IFM, she eventually enrolled at the Institute for Integrative Nutrition to complete her certification as a holistic health coach through the American Association of Drugless Practitioners. In 2016, Ashley became certified as a Functional Medicine Health Coach through the Functional Medicine Coaching Academy. It was through this program that Ashley was formally trained on how to use functional medicine principles in combination with positive psychology techniques to better support the behavior change it takes for patients to truly change their health. In 2019, Ashley passed the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching certification exam and is now considered a board-certified health and wellness coach. The NBC-HWC credential was established by the International Consortium for Health and Wellness Coaching in partnership with the National Board of Medical Examiners as a means to formally introduce health coaching into the healthcare system. It creates a standardization in health coaching that includes minimum requirements for training and continuing education hours as well as re-certification examinations every three years. Ashley is passionate about speaking publicly on functional nutrition and therapeutic lifestyle change. In 2015, she was honored to be invited to speak at the Lifestyle Medicine Summit in Phoenix, AZ on the role of health coaching in clinical practice. She has also spoken nationally for the Metagenics MAPS program on the critical role health coaches and lifestyle educators play in the medical community. Ashley is also a proud member of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. The ACLM is a medical professional society that provides quality support and continuing education to healthcare providers who are dedicated to using lifestyle medicine in clinical practice. Ashley’s passion for healthy living and love for people is evident in every encounter she has; with her clients, with her surrounding community and with her family of five. Not only is she intent on making a positive impact on the health of those around her, but in the medical community as well – supporting health care providers that address the root cause of chronic disease instead of simply band-aiding symptoms with medications. She believes the functional/lifestyle medicine approach to patient care has become a flame of hope in healthcare today and is honored and humbled to be just one small ember fueling the fire.
